Fraud Prevention in Real Estate at The Hill Center

On Monday, February 24, 2025, we had the privilege of hosting a powerful and informative event at the Hill Center in Capitol Hill focused on Fraud Prevention in Real Estate Transactions—and we’re proud to say it was a resounding success!

With a packed Lincoln Room and a deeply engaged audience, the session brought together seniors, realtors, attorneys, and community members for an open conversation about how to recognize and prevent fraud in real estate and financial transactions.

As a local realtor, I see firsthand how vulnerable our senior community can be to sophisticated scams. That’s why it was an honor to moderate a roundtable discussion featuring two outstanding experts:

  • Hannah Gleason from the Montgomery County State Attorney’s Office, who provided eye-opening insights into the most common fraud schemes targeting seniors and shared current legal protections available.

  • Curtis L. Zeager, Esq. of Woodland Estate and Title, who helped demystify estate planning, title fraud, and the practical steps families can take to protect their assets.

From real-world examples to legal know-how and prevention tips, attendees walked away with tools they can put into action right away. The Q&A session was especially impactful, with thoughtful questions that underscored how personal and pressing this issue is in our community.

We also had a chance to network and build deeper connections with attendees who are passionate about advocacy and education for our senior neighbors. If you weren’t able to attend, we encourage you to check out the [event recap video here] and reach out if you’d like to get involved in future sessions.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, participated, and helped spread the word. Together, we’re creating a more informed and empowered community.
